Document Summary

Mitotic cell division includes 2 parts: mitosis nuclear division, gives each daughter nucleus one copy of the parent cells replicated. Mitotic cell division typically gives rise to two daughter cells that are genetically identical to each other and the parent cell. Mitotic cell division: the mitotic phase (m-phase) of the cell cycle is divided into five phases. Prophase 3 major events: chromatin condenses, spindle microtubule form between centrioles, chromosomes are captured by spindle microtubules. Chromosomes condense: spindle apparatus forms, spindle consists of microtubules between two microtubule organizing centers containing pairs of centrioles. Late prophase: nuclear envelope disappears, microtubules attached to kinetochores of chromosomes, kinetochores are special proteins bundles of the centromeres, polar microtubules radiate toward the cell"s equator, spindle microtubules capture chromosomes at centromeres. Metaphase: (middle stage: centrioles positioned at the opposite ends (poles) of the cell, chromosomes move to and align on the equator of the cell.
