For january 2014 apods, i chose the one titled clouds and crescents on 2014 january4. Most of my reason is that i have spent about a man-year of my life working on the astronomical problem of predicting the visibility of the thin crescent moon. This is an ancient problem, but nowadays, with powerful astronomical tools, pretty accurate predictions can be made. And it is neat that we can see the crescent venus in the same picture. Jupiter is smack in the middle of gemini, right between the two twins. Laughably, the astrologers claim that jupiter is in cancer (e. g. http://www. librarising. com/astrology/tables/jupitersigns. html), but you can walk outside tonight and see that they are full of it. I chose the line "nine nine planets circling in a plane". Two points for this class come out of this.
