Cultural relativism : keeping an open" mind. Studying a culture based on its standards and terms. Four subfields: linguistic anthropology: - focus on language and how people communicate. Cultural and behavioral aspects (body language, tone of voice, how men and women use language differently [men-impart info; women-bond]) The origins of language: cultural (sociocultural): - culture learned behavior that is distinct among different groups of people. Culture is transmitted from parents/guardians to children. Example: culture surrounding athletes bc they are treated differently than the average person.
