ANTH 1001 Chapter : Anthropology Unit 1
Document Summary
The biocultural approach recognizes the relationship between what humans have inherited genetically and what they learn culturally. Ethnocentric is a view that is centered on a specific ethnic group(usually ones own). A belief in the superiority of ones own ethnic group. Our world view is the most natural, right, important. Any one who lives differently is wrong, inferior, unimportant. Cultural relativism this is a view that considers human interactions and behavior within their own culture/cultural context. We define marriage as one man, one woman. The most common form of marriage in the world is polygyny(one man married to multiple woman) and polyandry(one woman married to multiple men). Ex: the na have no form of marriage at all. The mother and the mother"s brother are the most important. The most beautiful women to us are very thin. Africa have a right of passage where their teenage women go to a fattening room to prepare for marriage and womanhood.
