Graphical user interface (gui): enables you to interact with your computer & which uses graphics such as an image of a file folder or wastebasket that you click to activate the item you represented (microsoft windows, linux, & macos). Command-line interface: on older operating systems which required you t o type all commands. All user interfaces serve the same basic function: to enable you to control the computer. The operating system makes sure that each process is allocated its own memory & manages the instructions that are sent to the processor. Multitasking: the ability to do more than one task at a time. Buffer: an area that temporarily holds data & instructions.
