Acute and chronic conditions that increase the risk of falls: 1/3 of adults over age 65 fall each year. 2 million older adults were treated for falls in 2009. 20-30% of falls result in moderate to severe injuries. 80% of deaths from falling were in those over 65. 1/2 of deaths from falls are related to traumatic brain injuries. The use of multiple interacting drugs can increase fall risk. Can be an atypical indicator of other diseases or conditions. Occurs when urine flow can not be controlled when the bladder is under stress. Abrupt onset of an intense urge to urinate.
