Many methods used to separate metal materials can be used to separate plastics: as long as they don"t generate heat. Use more teeth per inch on saw blades: use skip tooth blades. Don"t normally need cutting coolants or lubricants. Hot wire cutting for foam: water jet is better. Only done to allow large pieces of waste plastics to be recycled: regrind materials can be powder or granules. Separate types and colors: gets the most value from regrind. Slip- liquid clay: made by adding 40-50% water. The removal of fired ceramic or glass material is not easy. Grinding or milling: wet- done as a slurry with water. Attrition milling: dry- clay is the only moving part. Removal of water: filter pressing, spray drying (atomizing) Removal of air: pug milling, extrusion. Grinding of clay shapes: green machining- done before firing. Hard machining- done after firing: uses diamond abrasives. Sand or grit blasting: removes glass and leaves a frosted appearance.
