Digitization- process of converting text numbers sound photos and video into data that can be processes by digital devices. Binary digit- 0 and 1 representing digital data: bit. Ascii code- represents data as 0 or 1. Circuit board- carry data as pulses of electrical current. Cd/dvd- store data as dark and light spots. Disc devices- store data as magnetized particles. Numeric data- numbers that can be used in arithmetic calculations: represented by binary numbers. Character data- letters symbols and numbers not used in calculations: text. American standard code for information interchange- seven bits for each character. Extended ascii- 8 bits for each character: codes for 256 characters. Unicode- 16 bits per character: codes for 65,000 characters. Bits- all of the data stored and transmitted by digital devices. Byte- group of 8 bits: file size, storage capacity.
