Turn taking is signaled by long pauses and eye contact. Mixed messages: inconsistencies between verbal and nonverbal messages. The words say one thing, but the gesture, facial expression, and eye contact say another. Mixed messages produce tension and anxiety and group members found it difficult to respond to mix messages. Physical appearance: how we physically appear to others is often the first nonverbal message we send. Beauty bias: a perceived advantage accorded those who are viewed as attractive goes beyond simple interpersonal attraction and the advantage that attractive people have in choosing dates.
