No binging/purging episodes in past three months. Weight loss mostly through dieting, fasting and/or excessive exercise: binge eating/purging type. Medical complications: kidney, liver and heart damage, amenorrhea (moss of menstrual cycle), sallow/yellow skin, lanugo (downy hair develops to insulate because the fat is lost), sensitivity to cold, hypotension, cardiovascular problems, irreversible bone loss and osteoporosis. Cognitive problems: due to starvation, cbt is very difficult when low weight because cognitive functioning is damaged, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem. Epidemiology: 90-95% cases in women, peak age of onset is 14-18 years, chronic course- high rates of relapse, very resistant to treatment, fatal in 2-6% of cases. Combination of supportive nursing care, nutritional counseling, high calorie diet (more common) Put on meal plan that allows to gain weight in a healthy way. Need support of others, nurses, nutritionists: cognitive behavioral therapy. A discrete period of eating a large amount of food (concrete start and end)
