Document Summary

The development of the human being is the evolutionary growth that people undergo during their life, from conception until their death. While many of these changes are normal and expected, they still pose challenges. Developmental psychology is a branch of psychology that aims to explain the growth, change and coherence of people throughout life. Evolutionary psychology analyzes how thought, feelings and behavior are transformed in each of the stages of a person. Much of the theories within this discipline focus on development during childhood, since it is during this period in which the greatest number of transformations occur in the life of an individual. Developmental psychologists therefore study a wide range of theoretical areas, such as biological, social, emotional, and cognitive processes. Therefore, the three basic objectives of evolutionary psychology are to describe, explain and optimize development (baltes, reese and lipsitt).
