Group performance/satisfaction model: external conditions imposed on the group; Groups are part of a larger organisation, therefore external conditions apply to the group. General physical layout of workplace : group member resources; Group"s performance potential depends on the resources each individual brings to the group (interpersonal skills; communication; etc ) Personality traits also affect group performance (social skills preferred): group structure, roles: behaviour patterns expected of someone who occupies a position in a social unit. Roles are either oriented to 1. getting the job done; or 2. keeping group members happy. Getting the job done = task related role, whereas keeping members happy = If the group does not have a leader, individual who perform numerous tasks and relationship roles will likely assume this position. Blockers, dominators, withdrawers and recognition seekers are self oriented roles that are detrimental to a group"s performance and progress.
