SOC 134 Chapter Notes - Chapter 11: Social Justice, Social Inequality, Equal Opportunity
Document Summary
Social injustice: we believe there is an inequality that is unfair and should/could easily be remedied if our social institutions were different. Sociological judgement: this unfairness could be fixed with social change. Oppression: when people have enough power and motivation to ignore social injustices and not make changes. The justice and injustice of inequalities fair play vs. fair shares. Inequalities are fair so long as the rules by which people compete for valued goods are fair.
