Define evolution and describe the conditions under which it occurs, evolution is the process of cumulative change in the heritable characteristics of a population. Must be passed on genetically from one generation to the next. It has to have a major impact on a species meaning that not only one change can occur. Yes, natural selection because it is a variation amongst members of the same species. But it can also produce genes that lead to genetic diseases and can have devastating effects on the survival of some individuals in a species. They contribute to variation among individuals of a species because it produces a new phenotype which is different from their parents: meiosis- enables the production of haploid cells to make gametes. They contribute to variation among individuals of a species because four cells are produced that are genetically different from each other and only contain 50% of the parent cell"s genome.
