HIST 1011 Chapter 1: World History Chapter 1_First Civilizations
Document Summary
The first civilizations: the peoples of western asia and europe. Paleolithic is greek for old stone stone tools. Historians rely on primary sources to document the past. However, since those don"t exist for early humankind, historians rely on archaeological, and biological data. As a result, much of the history of early humankind relies on conjecture. Hominids, the earliest humanlike creatures, lived in africa 3-4 million years ago. They were the first to make stone tools. The australopithecines came first and were followed by the homo habilis, which had larger brains. Around 1. 8 million years ago the homo erectus left africa, and moved into europe and asia. By 100,000 b. c. e. , the homo sapiens had developed. The neanderthals, one type, used stone tools, and buried their dead. Between 150,000 to 200,000 years ago, homo sapiens sapiens ( wise, wise, human ) appeared. The began to spread outside africa around 100,000 years ago.
