The evolution of prehistoric cultures: history begins with writing and documentation, prehistory is the pre-literature era. The distinction if imprecise and even though there wasn"t writing there was literature in oral tradition. Hominids (biological family of humans) could date back 7 million years and modern homo sapiens sapiens only existed 150000 years. Stone ages (named for stone artifacts that inferences about prehistoric life came from: the paleolithic era. Began with first hominids who used tools whose life drew to a close after the last ice age. Hunting and gathering; dependent on resources from nature. Different weather creates different cultures (gather more in tropical locations and hunt more in colder locations) Some communities make gathering for females and hunting for males. 30000 years ago cultural activity exploded and homo sapiens emerged as the only survivors (no one knows what happened to neanderthals)
