If ugly, you are not discriminated against as long as performance is impressive if performance if below par, attractiveness matters you can get good grades with inferior work if you are attractive. If homely / unattractive man marries beautiful woman, his status is improved greatly: people begin to think he has self-confidence, likability, friendliness.
