In 1914, the development of synthetic colorants had revolutionized the dyeing and textile printing industries, which were dominated by the giant firm of germany. *there was a concern that britain became dependent on germany for a whole range of chemical products. Also another concern was that the same derivates from coal tar used to make dyes could be turned into modern explosives such as tnt. 1913, germany became dominant in dyestuff and british textile was a huge consumer of dyestuff. In his trip to england he perceived that england was not the land of science and he realized that chemist were despised there. He was interested in chemistry of plants growth and animals.
