BIOL 117 Chapter Notes - Chapter 8: Cell Theory, Animage, Prokaryote
Document Summary
The specimens we examine can be dead or alive. The light microscope can be used with a dye on the slide to view tissue samples, blood, microorganisms in pond water, microscopic cells. In your everyday life, you have probably noticed that certain instruments are ideal for certain situations. For example, you would use a spoon rather than a fork to eat soup because a spoon is shaped for scooping, while soup would slip between the tines of a fork. The use of ideal instruments also applies in science. In what situation(s) would the use of a light microscope be ideal, and why: we would use the light microscope to examine a dead organism such as an ant, to see the cells in its body. By using the microscope, we can use the light to pass through our specimen and generate a visual image for us to see. These medicines kill prokaryotic cells without harming human cells.
