Document Summary

Consider themselves original inhabitants of malay peninsula. If malay"s aren"t native/indigenous how different are they genetically from the. Very clear cultural differences between east and west semai. Infant mortality doubles between the west and east semais. Environment doesn"t seem to be very or at least easily habitable. Clearly have an important cultural idea of right and wrong, or at least whether or not something is right. Term patud" used for right" at least in the way we think of it. Seems like geography/topography is at least partially determining cultural divides. The subtribe" seems to be a group of extended family members. Clothes strategically designed to maximize area which can sweat as an adaptation to the heat. Interesting, the opposite of clothes in desert areas which is also hot but is designed to almost prevent too much sweating and sun exposure. Moisture is the difference, it"s not wet in the desert but very much is in malay.
