Personality: enduring patterns of perceiving, feeling, thinking about, and relating to oneself and the environment. Personality trait: a prominent aspect of personality that is relatively consistent across time and across situations. Personality disorder: an individual"s personality pattern must deviate a great deal from the expectations of his or her culture. Other criteria include: must be pervasive and flexible across situations, must be stable over time, have an onset in early childhood or adolescence, lead to significant distress or functional impairment. For it to be diagnosed in kids under 18, the pattern has to be present for at least a year. There are 3 clusters of personality disorders. Part of the schizophrenia spectrum: paranoid personality disorder: a pattern of pervasive distrust and suspiciousness of others such that their motives are interpreted as malevolent. Believe people are out to get them and preoccupied with idea/ concerns of victimization. At risk for md, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and psychotic episodes.
