Developed democracies: refers to countries that have institutionalized democracy and have a high level of economic development and prosperity. Freedom is a basic guarantee of the state unto its citizens, but the form and content of freedom vary from state to state: de nitions of civil rights & liberties. Judicial systems of the countries de ne, interpret, and defend citizens rights in different ways: publics level of political participation, type of electoral system used & role of the executive. Differences do not change the fact that private property and free markets are fundamental institutions in developed democracies: role of the state in the economy, amount of social expenditures > rate of taxes. Developed democracies today: institutions of developed democracies make them modern [secular, rational, materialistic, technological, bureaucratic, individual freedom over collective equality] Currently many of these institutions in these countries are going under changes > postmodern.
