Music is not a universal language but it is a universal phenomenon: Soundscape- the characteristic sounds of a particular place, both human and nonhuman. Acoustic ecology- each living thing that makes sound has its own niche; the combined voices of living things. Culture- the way of life of a people, learned and transmitted from one generation to the next. Music-culture- a group"s total involvement with music: ideas, actions, institutions, material objects- everything that has to do with music. Rhythm (in music) - a time-relation between sounds. Metrical rhythm- a pattern of regular recurrence between sounds in music. Polyrhythm- simultaneous of several rhythms with what is perceived to be a shifting downbeat. Polymeter- the simultaneous presence of two different metrical systems.
