If less than 200 cc per void or bladder feels as a palpable mass - over distention. Firmness and position are checked q15 min x1 hour, q 30 min x2. If uterus is not firm, then massage, if still not firm try to express blood. If still does not contract, get a provider who might: Know the dose, the route, side effects and counter indications. May be unaware of full bladder even without epidural encourage to try to urinate, give privacy!!! If had epidural may need an ongoing catheter for 6 hrs. Help to the bathroom the first couple of times because of orthostatic hypotension.
