Cerebral vascular stroke disorder-any sudden onset, dying tissue. 20% of brain tumor are meningiomas that grow in meninges. Cerebral ischemia- disruption of blood supply to an area in brain. Ischemic brain damage- excitatory amino acid, blood vessels are blocked. Contusion- bleeding in head in absence of a laceration. Results due to hematoma (bruise or collection of clotted blood ) Chronic traumatic encephalopathy- seen in boxers and players, suffered concussions over time. Bacterial infections- can cause meningitis, abscesses and general paresis (insanity and dementia) Viral infection- rabies virus, can attack mumps and herpes, may lie dormant. Mercury poisoning due to mad hatters or toxins. Tardive dyskinesia- prolonged exposure to certain antipsychotic medications. Apoptosis- activation of genes that kill neurons and cells. Necrosis- neurons dies passively due to injury and can cause inflammation. Epilepsy- seizures occurs due to impaired function at inhibitory synapses. Simple partial seizures- sensory and motor affected, can spread. Generalized seizures- entire brain, can spread or start at focus.
