Deviance is ambiguous- so many good and bad definitions of it that it is hard to figure out what is deviant and what is not. Objective deviance- refers to particular ways of thinking, acting, and being. Subjective deviance- the moral status accorded to such thoughts, actions, and characteristics. The placement of that condition by the members of society. Deviance is relative- an act becomes deviant when it is socially defined as such. It therefore changes over time and between societies. Indictable offences and summary offenses: indictable offences includes serious crimes such as homicide, sexual assault, robbery, and break and entry, summary offences- relatively minor offenses including fraudulently obtaining food from restaurant- speeding etc. Street crime- robbery, assault, break and enter can be violent, property and or moral (victimless crimes such as prostitution and drug use. Illegal activities committed by people in the course of their employment or in dealing with their financial affairs.
