Quote from clide c. liberates us from provincial idea of what being human is . To study humans as a whole holistic study. Anthropology attempts to study every area of study related to humans. Emic analysis see world from peoples point of view. Etic analysis apply concepts that are not part of culture"s beliefs. Ex: monotheism desert people; polytheistic forest environments. This is a generalized idea, and etic analysis. Participant observation empathy plays a role. Generally anthropologists work in the middle of this continuum. Can"t ask dumb questions, must act as participant. Exclusion from other groups, men can"t socialize with women, etc. Useful especially in the beginning of study (may act as a translator) Culture couldn"t use the name of the dead; it was offensive.
