Every decision you make in developing your doc should reflect your audience, their needs, and your purpose. Three main goals when communicating: readers should understand meaning exactly as you intend, writing should achieve its goal w/ specific readers, keep goodwill of those with whom communicating. Important info should be at very beginning of document/email: answer these questions: If you do bizz w/ other cultures, read up on said cultures. Knowing readers" responsibilities in the organization can help you anticipate their attitude-if subject will interest them. The needs and perceptions of those who receive the copies should be considered. The need for written communication develops from interactions of people involved in a work environment: determine your purpose. Determining why you are writing is as important as determining your readers; purpose always relates to readers. May have more than one purpose: understand your role as a writer. You will be communicating with employees above, below and on the same level.
