Checking for consciousness: put on gloves first, tap shoulder and ask if they are okay, for a child, flick the bottom of the foot. If not responsive, call 9-1-1 immediately: call first situation. Witnessed sudden collapsed of child younger than 12 or infant. Unconscious child or infant with known cardiac problems: care first situation. Person younger than 12 whose collapse was not witnessed. To open the airway of an adult: push down on forehead while pulling up on bony part of chin (head tilt) To open the airway of a child: place on hand on forehead and tilt head slightly past neutral. To open the airway of an infant: place hand on forehead and tilt head to neutral position: breathing. Look listen and feel for no more than 10 seconds.
