Document Summary

Sensory receptor: detect info about changes in environment and relay them to cns. Each receptor is sensitive to a specific kind of energy. Change in receptor membrane potential = receptor potential. Graded potential: magnitude of chnge depends on strength of stimulus. Stimulus => sensory recep abosorbs energy from stim => energy transd. Potential = produced => action potential in sensory neuron. Sensory adaptation: change in response rate to stimulus. Over time sensory receptor does not respond to stimulus at the same strength as it initially does if stimulus persists. Resulting in decreased strength of synapse and decrease action potential. Action potential occurs as long as stimulus persists. Ability to differentiate stimuli depend on sensory recept. Receptors are connected w specific neurons in the brain. When brain recieves signal from specific receptor it means a certain type of stimulus occured. Number of sensory neurons transmititng signal to brain.
