Document Summary

A value judgment is a judgment of the right or wrong of something or someone, or of the usefulness of something or someone, based on a comparison or other relativity. As a generalization, a value judgment can refer to a judgment based on a particular set of values or a particular value system. A meaning related to the value judgment is a timely evaluation based on limited information, an evaluation conducted in a hurried way because we must make a decision quickly. The value judgment is a fact that can be judged. The term value judgment can be used objectively to refer to any mandate that implies the obligation to perform an act, implicitly implying the terms "must" or "should". More commonly, the term value judgment refers to the opinion of an individual. Of course, the opinion of the individual is formed to some extent by their belief system and culture - cultural values - to which they belong.
