Document Summary

In mark levine"s jazz book, many key topics are explored in the world of jazz theory and improvisational skills as well. The book can be broken down into the in depth study of various jazz pianists throughout history. Barron, bill evans, and red garland are all explored within the first third of the book. The jazz pianists mentioned in this book are looked at with an eye for the style they played in and also what each of them brought to the jazz world. It also explains how each pianist introduced a new set of audience throughout each of the time periods. I will most likely use this source as an introduction to my argument and a defense to my thesis early on. Being able to explain the history of jazz and how each pianist was involved in multiple musical venues and settings will be a good defense for the idea that jazz is a common language.
