Macbeth Act 1 (Scene 1-4)
Scene 1
• There’s a storm in the Scottish kingdom.
• Three witches appear and use chants to express their plans to confront Macbeth (a
Scottish general) after the battle ends.
• Then they disappear and the scene ends.
Scene 2
• King Duncan, the king of Scotland, asks a captain for information of the battle
Scotland is fighting.
• The captain says that the generals Macbeth and Banquo fought with courage and led
the Scots to victory.
• Duncan is informed that the Thane of Cawdor is a traitor and Duncan demands the
Thane’s death.
• Macbeth is given the title of Thane of Cawdor.
Scene 3
• The witches appear with the intention of meeting Macbeth and Banquo.
• They react poorly to the witches’ appearances.
