Macbeth Act 3 Scene 1-3
Scene One
Banquo is thinking about the prophecy delivered by the three witches, and he
wonders if it will all come true eventually now that the first part of the prophecy
has already taken place.
Macbeth, who is now the King of Scotland, and his wife invite Banquo to their
castle for a banquet but Macbeth has ulterior motives - but Lady Macbeth is not
yet aware of his intentions.
Macbeth wants to talk about Duncan’s sons who fled from the kingdom, probably
because of the threat they pose to his crown.
Macbeth delivers a soliloquy about his heirless future and how Banquo is the only
man that he fears.
Macbeth has a conversation with two hired assassins, and he reminds them of all
the ways Banquo has wronged them.
o The men are ready to take revenge and kill Banquo and his son, Fleance
and thereby eliminate the threat of Banquo’s heirs assuming control of the
crown.
