Archeologists have to be careful because excavation is a destructive act and you can only do it once. Excavation is also very expensive with the conservation and storage of their finds and the interpretation and publication of their results research design: when archeologists try to decide their objectives and plans. 1)formulation of research strategy to resolve a particular question or test a hypothesis. 2)collecting and recording of evidence against which to test that idea. 3)processing and analyzing that evidence and its interpretation in the light of the idea being tested. 4)publication of the results in articles, books, etc: major task of archeologists is to locate and record the whereabouts of sites and features. Ground reconnaissance > methods for identifying individual sites include documentary sources, place-name evidence, and actual fieldwork (primarily) Documentary sources are those such as homer"s poem the iliad and the bible that contain historical names and places to which archeologists go out to find them.
