A rule of civil conduct prescribed by the supreme power in a state, commanding what is right, and prohibiting what is wrong. To maintain stability in the social, political and economic system through dispute resolution, protection of property, and the preservation of the state, while simultaneously permitting ordered change. Although moral concepts greatly influence the law, morals and law are not the same, and are described by most people as intersecting circles. The area common to both circles: the ideas that are both moral and legal, for example: (cid:862)thou shall (cid:374)ot kill(cid:863) or (cid:862)thou shall (cid:374)ot steal(cid:863). The legal circle that does not intersect the morality circle includes rules that are legal, but people consider completely unrelated to morals: for example) driving on the right side of the road. The morality circle that does not intersect the legal circle.
