Goal to highlight the similarities between the cultural systems of the europeans and nahuas. Each side operated on a false but workable assumption that their respective concepts and perceptions of the other were the identical. Thus they avoided the close examination of the unfamiliar. This allow allowed for the long preservation of indigenous structures > process of the double mistaken identity. Nahuatl language documents show a world of well-defined indigenous structures. Natives did not shy away from contact with things that were spanish. Postconquest nahuas revealed themselves to be self-centered realists and corporate survivors. Traditional that natives were overwhelmed and fearful is illusory. 2 approached to the nahuas (1) examine ways in which spanish phenomena are described in the earliest nahuatl texts and dictionaries. Nahuas hardly entered the spanish culture (2) look at actions, speech acts, and emotions of the nahuas during the first year or two after the arrival of the spaniards in central mexico.
