To maintain that c had revealed the existence of a continent, it is necessary to establish he was previously aware of its existence > this can be done only by ignoring his original purpose. Who should be given credit for the discovery: Oviedo: c knew what he was going to find, c read about the hesperides and learned of their existence so (thing is not unknown, just forgotten/ lost)
