Behavior: observable actions of a person or animal. Mind: individual"s sensations, perceptions, memories, thoughts, dreams, motives, emotional feelings, and other subjective experiences. Comes through systematic collection and logical analysis. Based on observations of behavior, which then are used to make inferences of the mind. Psychology can be characterized in many different ways: psychology is a set of questions, psychology is a set of theories and procedures, psychology is a product of history (historical evolution) Ancient greeks speculated about the senses, the human intellect, and the physical basis of the mind. Church maintained the view of dualism (each human being consists of two entities of the material body and an immaterial soul) Body: part of natural world and can be studied scientifically like inanimate matter can be studied. Soul: supernatural entity that operates with free will, and not natural law, and cannot be studied scientifically.
