An esoteric aspect was concerned w an investigation of the psyche + w the transformation of the human psychological conditions. Europe, 17-18c: alchemy was rede ned as chemistry, a science of matter devoid of psyche. Boyle + newton: made central contributions to a new conception of the cosmos. Described nature independent of any references to mind or magic. Lavoisier + priestley: discovered oxygen + its roles in combustion + respiration.
