Communication is considered successful if it goes through this model. Cmm says though that people who focus on this lose sight of the pattern of communication and what it creates. Communication is the relational process of creating and interpreting messages that elicit a response . The coordinated management of meaning: a theory that looks directly at the communication process and what its doing. First claim : our communication creates our social worlds. Communication is not just a tool for exchanging ideas and information it makes selves , relationships, organizations etc aka the stuff that makes up our social worlds. For cmm theorists, our social worlds are not something we discover but something we make the ribbon: representing patterns of communication that literally forms the people in the conversation and creates their relationship. Second claim: the stories we tell differ from the stories we live. Story: much of what we say when talking to others.
