Define communication and the five types of communication discussed in this chapter. Communication is defined as the general term that sums up the sending and receiving of messages that are simplified into five types; Interpersonal communication- the sending and receiving of messages between people. Organizational communication-messages move up and down the organizational levels. Two-way communication-messages move freely between two people, or up and down the ladder. Open communication-messages sent to many such as newspapers, books, t. v: list five obstacles to communication and how to overcome each. The first obstacle in communication is communicators affect the message; background, education, past experience and intelligence/attitudes, opinions and values/prejudices, assumptions and expectations. In adjusting slang, jargon and swearing in becoming aware where you are and where the other person is so that you can make the message clear and understandable. Second, symbols can obscure the meaning; words are often misinterpreted into several meanings such as nonverbal communication and through facial expression, voice and gestures.
