Document Summary

Govt-105 - textbook note - the republic, book v. Socrates says there is one form for virtue and many for vice. Socrates says that there are as many types one soul as there are types of regimes possessing distinct forms; five of each. One type of regime is the one they have described; can be called either a kingship or aristocracy. This is the only right form of regime and the other four are bad. Polemarchus complains that socrates has skipped describing how children will be begotten in the city. Glaucon says he should talk about how the community of women and children will be, their rearing in the time between birth and education. Socrates asks if the females of the guardians should do everything in common with the males or stay indoors. Glaucon says they should do everything in common except the females are weaker and the men are stronger.
