Not exactly a system in the truest sense however because of the different orders of criminal justice agencies and the lack of interoperability. The system includes crime prevention and crime reduction, arrest and prosecution of suspects, hearing of criminal cases, sentencing, etc. Task environment: the cultural, geographic, and community setting in which the criminal justice system operates and justice personnel make decisions. The constitution act, 1867 is the legislation setting out the division of responsibilities between the federal and provincial or territorial governments. Provincial & territorial: administers criminal justice, such as the police, courts and provinal prisons, enact and enforce provincial statutes (quasi-criminal) ex; impaired driving. Municipal: may pass by-laws within the city limits ex; collect fines, control police budget.
