In a diverse society such as ours, in an era of induced change, it has been dif cult to implement this principle into everyday life. In our society (u. s) , there is a fear of freedom (autonomy) as it is viewed as problem and believed to lead to lawlessness and chaos. In every society, we nd some organized social unit: but not everywhere does the social unit provide freedom to the individual or the opportunity for spontaneous living. We often nd a hierarchy where women and children are seen as minority status. It is often dif cult for us to decide exactly how much our principle of personal autonomy involves.
