SOCI 3630 Chapter Notes - Chapter 7.2: Coronary Artery Disease, Thiazide, Gout
Document Summary
Drug induced causes: nsaids and decongestants -> psudeoephedrine, got otc (behind) (apparently pseudofed isn"t ephedrine and is a shit decongestant, doesn"t affect bp) need to see pharmacists first. Nsaids can affect bp by kidney damage (regulates bp) and reduces synthesis of prostaglandins which is important, can decrease response of antihypertensive agents. Ccb isn"t affected, acei and arbs are affect, closely monitor bp. Other common ones -> antidepressants, nicotine (and widthdrawl). Licorice -> root, salt black, nothing to do with sugar. If it was drug induced, think about d/cing don"t treat it all with drugs, think about drug induced. Targets: w/o compelling indications normally 160/100 (start thinking that it is time to start meds), target. Diabetes is different, high risk of cv events, want to stop this from happening so aim for low. Very old is 80, higher b/c if lowering too much can lead to hypotension and can lead to falls. The 150 is elderly with no other medical conditions.
