The sperm meets the egg while it is travelling along the fallopian tube into the uterus. If the eggs implants itself the placenta begins to grow, allowing nutrients and oxygen to enter and waste to exit. Hormone levels are higher by the end of pregnancy. Most common changes are weight gain, protruding abdomen, breast tenderness, frequent urination, fatigue, morning sickness (nausea). Ex. most less interested in sex but some report more interest when pregnant. Can experience both positive and negative feelings which may be influenced on how others respond to their pregnancy, affecting how they feel about their self-image and new role. Study compared how an employee reacted to a pregnant vs. non-pregnant woman. When the pregnant woman asked for a job she received hostile sexism should not be looking for a job. When she asked for help buying a gift it was benevolent sexism.
