Gender typing - includes how children acquire their knowledge about gender and how they develop their gender related personality characteristics, preferences, skills, behaviours, and self concepts. Biological components of gender like sex organs developed during prenatal period- time before birth. Ideas about gender are conveyed during infancy - birth to 18 months of life. An egg with 23 chromosomes combines with a sperm which also has 23 chromosomes - make a cell with 23 chromosome pairs - 23rd pair is the sex chromosome. Females only have x sex chromosome- males have x and y. Each human fetus has a primitive internal reproductive system - internal female - called. For the first 6 weeks, male and female embryos are almost identical. Mulleriam ducts - develops into uterus, vagina, egg ducts etc. Wolffian ducts - male internal system - develop into prostate gland and vesicles for semen.
