Sex - inborn biological characteristics relating to reproduction such as sex chromosomes or sex organs. Gender - psychological characteristics and social categories that human culture creates - ex: femininity and masculinity society standards. Doing gender - express your gender when you interact with other people, perceive gender of other people. Gender messages through the way you dress, talk, present yourself- pereive the same of others. Implies that gender is an active and dynamic process and not stable. Sexism - bias against people on the basis of their gender. Racism - bias against people on the basis of racial/ethnic groups. Classism - bias that is based on social class. Heterosexism/ sexual prejudice - bias towards those who are not exclusively heterosexual. Feminist approaches feminism - principal that values womens experiences and ideas - also emphasises that men and women should be socially, economically and legally equal. Includes men as well not exclusive to women.
