Causes of alzheimer"s disease: there is a strong genetic component. If a relative has alzheimer"s there is a 25 50% probability that a person will develop it as well. If not, then the probability is 10%: in identical twins, if one twin has it, there is a 40-50% chance that the other will get it & a 10- 50% chance for fraternal twins: there are also external, environmental influences. ex. People who have suffered head traumas or long period of depression are more likely to succumb: there are some protective factors. People who have been exposed to estrogen or antioxidants are less likely to get the disease.
